5 Foods That Can Cause Memory Loss.

5. White rice

Apple Strudel Recipe

Flaky crust outside, gooey apples inside. Create a warm apple strudel at home and serve with a dollop of ice-cream.

Ingredients Of Apple Strudel

  • 1-2/3 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • 1 egg-slightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 Tbsp cornflour
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 5 1/2 cups tart apples, chopped
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup, plus 1 tsp butter (divided)
  • 1 Tbsp honey

How to Make Apple Strudel

1.In medium bowl, mix flour, salt, vinegar, oil and egg.
2.Add water and mix. Knead until dough is smooth place in a bowl.
3.Cover and set aside one hour. Mix sugars, cornflour and cinnamon.
4.On a floured pastry cloth, roll dough to a 12x8 inch rectangle. (A pastry cloth is a durable cloth made of canvas used for rolling out pastry dough)
5.Spread apples over dough; sprinkle lemon juice and sugar mixture over apples.
6.Dot with 2 tbsp butter.
7.Using pastry cloth to lift pastry, roll dough jelly roll fashion.
8.Seal edges.
9.Place on greased cookie sheet.
10.Bake at 400 degrees F for 35 minutes.
11.Mix honey and 1 tsp butter, spread on crust.
12.Bake 10 minutes longer.

Shepherd's Pie Recipe

Lamb cooked in mild spices, baked with mashed potatoes and cheese. A delicious savory pie.

Ingredients Of Shepherd's Pie

  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 450 gm minced lamb
  • 2-3 carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 25g plain flour or maida
  • 300 ml lamb or chicken stock
  • 1 Tbsp tomato puree
  • 700 gm potatoes, peeled and boiled
  • 25 gm butter
  • 4-5 Tbsp milk
  • 50 gm cheddar cheese, grated

How to Make Shepherd's Pie

1.Heat the oil in a pan and add the bay leaves followed by the onion and fry for a couple of minutes.
2.Then add the green chillies, lamb, and carrots and continue frying for 8-10 minutes until the mince turns brown.
3.Add the salt, cumin and flour and stir for a minute. Slowly blend in the stock and tomato puree.
4.Cook until the mixture thickens. In the meantime, peel and boil the potatoes in boiling water for 20 minutes until soft.
5.Preheat the oven at 200C. Mash the potatoes with the butter and milk.
6.When the lamb mixture is thick, tip it into an oven proof dish.
7.Spread the mashed potatoes on top and sprinkle over the cheese.
8.Place in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes.
